Crocodile is a species of tree with a wide ecological amplitude, suitable for the land and climate in the North, with many uses, especially its ability to sustainably protect, and simple planting techniques. Crocodile grows well on soil with a mechanical composition from sandy to medium flesh, well drained, alluvial soils along rivers, streams, and hilly soils.

Crocodile is a multi-use tree. It is grown for wood and also gives us income from the fruit. In residential areas, it is an excellent shade tree, straight tree, dark green leaves, shady and will not break or fall.

Description:

Crocodiles can be up to 30 m tall. The branches are small with edges and ash-gray villi. Leaves alternate, pinnate 30–45 cm long, with 11-17 alternate leaflets. The leaflets are oval, pointed at the base, rounded, 6–10 cm long, 2.5–4 cm wide, tough, smooth, clearly ribbed below. Inflorescences are inflorescences, growing at the top or near the top;

Flowers small, greenish-white, with soft hairs. The fruit is a slightly flattened spherical nut, about 2 cm in diameter, dark yellow when ripe; contains one seed. Flowering in spring-summer and fruiting in summer-autumn, fruits are harvested in the period from July to September.

The fruit is used fresh to make soup or the pulp of the fruit is used to make vinegar sauce or jam, apricot, pickled crocodile, etc. It also has some medicinal properties and is used in traditional oriental medicine.

In Vietnam: The trees grow in semi-deciduous forests, on deep red or medium deep red soil, at altitudes from about 0–600 m in the area of ​​Lang Son, Bac Kan, Thai Nguyen to the coastal plains. and Central Highlands; Rarely found in the Southern region. The tree is also commonly grown in many places to make shade trees and get fruit, preferring to grow in sandy soil.
