Gynecological screening tests are used to find out if there are no symptoms. Cancer screening tests are aimed at early detection and more effective treatment. Of all gynecological cancers, only cervical cancer has a screening test - Pap smear / HPV test - for early detection and prompt treatment.

Family Medical Practice is currently using the HPV test, one of the most accurate screening tests available to assess possible risk of cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer screening tests

- Pap smear test.

- Test for HPV (Human Papillomavirus)

What is the Pap smear test?

The Pap smear (also called a cervical smear) is a simple test to detect cervical cell changes that could develop into cancer if left untreated.

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a common virus that can be transmitted through the skin (from skin to skin) or through sex.

There are more than 100 different strains of HPV, strains 16 and 18 cause 70% of the risk of cervical cancer.

The HPV test shows infection with the virus 16 and 18 and 12 other high-risk groups of HPV linked to cervical cancer.

Early detection of the HPV virus is the key to preventing cervical cancer. The HPV test also screens for 12 other high-risk strains of HPV

Why should I get tested for HPV?

Researches around the world today have proven the best method to screen for cervical cancer risk is the HPV test, which causes 99% of cervical cancers.
