Solar cells work like?

The sun provides an inexhaustible plentiful source of energy and produces no carbon dioxide emissions. Therefore, the development of solar energy technology is being interested by many scientists. So what are solar cells? how does it work?

Solar cells (solar cells / photovoltaic cells) are devices that directly convert sunlight (photovoltaic) energy into electrical energy (electrical energy) based on the photoelectric effect. Photoelectric effect is the ability of matter to emit electrons (electrons) when it is shone by light.

Silicon is known as a semiconductor. “Semiconductors are intermediate materials between conductors and insulators. The semiconductor acts as an insulator at low temperature and is conductive at room temperature ”(Wikipedia). With such properties, silicon is an important component in the structure of solar cells.

Of course, to activate the process requires energy in contact with silicon cells. Sunlight is made of photons, small energy particles that can come into contact with solar cells and loosen the bonding of electrons in the N electrode. Movement of free elentrons from electricity pole N to electrode P generates electric current.

Once the electric field has been generated, all we need to do is collect and convert it into usable electricity. An inverter fitted with solar cells converts current from direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC). Alternating current is the current we use everywhere.
