Vietnam is planning to triple its electricity production from renewable sources and increase its solar home consumption by 26 percent by 2030, Prime Minister of Vietnam told Reuters.
Speaking to the G7 summit in Canada on June 4, 1818, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said Vietnam hoped to use some 20 million tons of rare earth reserves, which he said was the third largest in the world. to develop new energy technologies.
Answering questions from Reuters in writing, Phuc said, "Vietnam is fortunate enough to have great potential for developing clean energy."
Phuc said Vietnam hopes to cooperate in the areas of research, development and transfer of advanced technologies in the mining and processing of rare earths in order to create value-added and environmentally friendly products. school. "
Vietnam's largest rare land mine is located in Lai Chau province, close to the border with China. This is the essential mineral for many technologies such as wind turbines, electric car batteries, solar cells and smart phones.
Over time, Vietnam has sought to promote the development of renewable energy to reduce its dependence on coal. Phuc said Vietnam will increase its electricity production from renewable sources from 58 billion kilowatt hours by 2015 to 101 billion kilowatt hours by 2020 and 186 billion kilowatt hours by 2030.
By 2015, only 4.3% of households in Vietnam use solar energy. Vietnam plans to increase the use of these devices by 12 percent by 2020, and by 26 percent by 2030.
