PROGRAM
Construction of a multi-media library (musicological library) and a music school.
FEATURES
This unique library and the music school were created by exploring filters, skin and volume.
The mineral exterior facade references the colour and patterns of Sumerian Cuneiform script on clay tablets – one of humanity’s first known systems of writing.
The façade’s texture acts as foliage and filters light. In the interior, layered concrete gives the impression of natural mass, softening any hard edges in the corridors and library reading room.
The two contrasting functions of the building - the library and music school - coexist in the same horizontal volume.
The building is inserted into the lightly sloping terrain.
The school’s spaces are organized around a central courtyard.
The music school faces north, while the library faces south.
This sustainable project cleverly camouflages the technical equipment on the roof.
The solar panels, roof-top garden and natural materials all contribute towards creating a tranquil environment.
This project also involved the renovation of the surrounding park, which includes an amphitheatre and a landscaped carpark.
