ELTiS (English Language Test for International Students) is the English Language Test for International Students, aged from 14 - 19, who would like to apply for admission at public high schools (THCL) of the United States or apply for the Cultural Exchange Scholarship program. The ELTiS test is designed to assess students' listening and reading skills needed to understand secondary school’s lecture content and handle situations that occur in the classroom. The ELTiS test score is also the entry level of the EFL program (English as a Foreign Language) and the IEP (Intensive English) program in the United States.
The Official ELTiS test consists of two parts: Listening and Reading. However, for the American Public High Schools Scholarship program (or American Cultural Exchange) in Vietnam, the ELTiS test also includes Writing test to examine students' ability to write essays.

Keys to achieve High Score in Eltis Test
For the Listening Section
The Listening section tests the level of English comprehension in high school academic environment. Students will listen to audiotapes and answer questions about what is heard. Students will read the question in the exam and listen to it on the tape, then fill in the answer on the answer sheet. The recording will have a pause after each question for students to have time to write the answer. All recordings are only played ONCE, EXCEPT the listening section that evaluates the level of understanding of Mathematics. This section will be played TWICE to help students understand all the details and numbers. Questions in the Listening section may ask about the main ideas, details or implications.
To do well in the Listening section, students should first pay attention to the overall meaning of the recording. Students can practice by listening to conversations and presentations in high school using English and trying to grasp the basic content the speaker wants to convey. During practice, students can listen to the conversation many times, however, do not try to record every word, every sentence. If students feel that dictating what is heard is effective, students can learn this way, but don't forget that the main goal is to understand what the speaker is saying.
For the Reading Section
The Reading section tests the ability to understand written language, academic texts commonly used in high school. The Reading test is divided into two parts: Part 1 asks students to complete sentences with academic words and phrases to make them meaningful, in Part 2, students will view a chart and read the passages from schoolbooks in diverse topics such as Science, History, etc. Similar to the Listening section, the topic in Reading will ask about the main ideas, implications and vocabulary in specific academic topic.
In order to do well in Reading section, students need to focus on the meaning of the whole text section as in the schoolbooks. Students can practice by reading news in magazines, books and from online sources and trying to understand the meaning. Some of the strategy that can be applied when doing the test are to note down what students understand, highlight the main ideas of the author in each paragraph so that you students can deduce the meaning of the parts students find difficult to understand. Re-read these parts slowly and use the general context as well as the words understood to find out the meaning of words, phrases or sentences that students don't understand well. In the process of reviewing, students can look up the meaning of the words don't know and try to memorize them. Knowing the meaning of more and more academic vocabulary is easier to achieve high score in the Reading test.
For the Writing Section
The Writing Section tests students' ability to choose and present ideas, knowledge of grammar and vocabulary of certain topics related to daily activities and in order to do well in Writing, students should read the topic carefully and form an outline before starting to write to make sure the writing time is controlled and the ideas are not missed out. Although the Writing section tests your vocabulary, don't try to present too complex ideas. This can confuse students and waste time during the test. Pay attention to the grammar of the essays, the consistency, coherence and the link between the sentences, the paragraphs in the essays.
